At Ashoka, debate allows students to not only express their thoughts on a pertinent topic, but also display their arguments supporting a side. One of the most pertinent topics in the 21st century lies in the field of environmental studies. Thus, in collaboration with the Environment Ministry, we organized a Modified Asian Parliamentary Debate on the motion ‘This House believes that the plant-based meat industry prioritizes profit over health and sustainability, undermining its ethical claims’. We portrayed a difference of debating, against the common perception of table banging and shouting, which focused more on formation of arguments, clarity in putting forward point and convincing the house of one’s stance. With adjudicators from NLU Delhi and NLU Lucknow, our debaters were critically judged and were provided with informative feedback.
